Musician: Richard Matsey

I've been involved with music since starting piano lessons at 10 years old. I began playing in bands as a teenager and have continued to develop my skills through education, performance and unrelenting practice. 

I held the role of House Pianist at Larsen's Steakhouse/La Jolla until they closed in May of 2022.  Additionally, I’ve performed on stage with legendary performers Wayne Newton and Charlie DeChant (Hall & Oates). I've supported numerous ensembles including Clay Colton Band, The Xceptional Music Company, Forte’, Damaged Goods and Blue Fever, and have opened for recording artists SmashMouth, Spencer Davis and other artists.

My recent performances include:  Rancho Valencia Resort, Sheraton Hotel, Westin Hotel, Solterra Winery, Amalfi Cucina  & Carruth Cellars.

Through years of live performance, I am relaxed on stage and have performed at virtually every major venue in San Diego including The House of Blues, Belly-Up, Hard Rock Café, Harrah’s, Pala Casino and others.

Education is the foundation of my skills and have been developed through studies at Indiana University Music School – (Piano, Composition, Rudiments, Voice) and private lessons from masters Rob Thorson, Dave LaRue, and Beaver Felton.

I use Kawai  keyboards, & QSC speakers, Warwick and MusicMan basses along with Gallien-Kruger amplification.
